JAMIE Codd retired from the point-to-point ranks at Tattersalls after riding his 972nd and final winner between the flags on board the Denis Murphy-trained Supreme Gift in the four-year-old geldings’ maiden.

Codd, who first began riding in the sphere during the 1999/2000 season, had to be at his brilliant best here to fend off the persistent challenge of the Colin Bowe-trained and Barry O’Neill-ridden Monty’s Star by a length. It was the perfect ending for the twice former champion rider who amassed over 4,000 rides between the flags in a glittering career.
