BARNADOWN Showjumping played host to the penultimate round of Pony, Young Rider and Children on Horses Dublin Horse Show qualifiers last weekend and, as in previous qualifiers, all divisions were highly competitive and went down to the wire.

In the 128cm decider, 66 combinations battled it out for one of the coveted tickets. There were joint winners in this division when Leinster’s Ellie Sheane (Newhaven Cooley) and Munster rider Katelyn Horgan (Hillin Ravel) both delivered double clears in a time of 38.09. Ulster’s Alice Steele also remained within the 39 second marker, delivering a clear with Zulus Dream in a time of 38.38 for third.

Lucia Keane was fractions behind with Bossinova, coming home with nothing to add in 40.08 for eventual fourth place. Aimee Moloney proved that the time could be beaten as she clocked 33.49 with the eight-year-old Ellis Island D’Argan, but four faults meant she had to contend with fifth place.

Munster’s Charlie Flynn suffered a similar fate, clocking a fast time of 36.30 with Daffodil, but he too paid the price as he came home carrying four faults for sixth place.

Leinster rider Cassie Rae Curran took the win in the 128cm six/seven-year-old division when she finished on a score of 76 with the Emma-Jay Curran-owned six-year-old CC Cheyene.

138cm

Munster riders took the four top placings in the 138cm decider. Leading the victory lap when fastest of two triple clears was Isolde Jane Tivy and Knocknahorgan Velvet, clocking 39.34. Juliet Quirke’s decision to take the longer route with Blackwood Kilamaster paid dividends as she came home clear in 47.91 for second. Charlie Flynn was back in the ribbons, this time taking third with Knud Van Orchid’s when they had one down in the jump-off in 35.15.

Sam Widger also had one on the ground with the seven-year-old Creevelea Larrybo, in a time of 39.58 for eventual fourth. Leinster’s Robbie Sheehan crossed the line also on four faults with Bay Times (41.81) for fifth, ahead of Connaught rider Joshua Broderick who had one down in the final jump-off aboard D’Hectate Des Ifs (43.21).

In the 138cm six and seven-year-old qualifier, 37 combinations battled it out and again the scores were very close. Leinster took another win with Saoirse O’Neill and the six-year-old Carnhill Rascal finishing on the top score of 75.5.

148cm

A total of 62 combinations went to post in the 148cm section and it went to the third round with only one triple clear being delivered in what was an eight-way jump-off. The winning round was delivered by Iseult Fleming and Oscar van de Beekerheide when they lodged a clear in 42.26.

Connaught rider Gary Dooley beat the time with the eight-year-old Coppenagh Gatsby but a pole on the ground in 40.83 meant a second place finish for them. Fellow Connaught rider Senan Reape finished on eight faults with Catness 8 in a time of 42.44 for third, ahead of Lauren Quinn and Deluca Reape who picked up eight faults in 43.72.

Zara-Jane Kelly withdrew from the third round with Romabout, but a fast time of 39.74 in the second round saw them take fifth. Completing the top six was Leinster’s Lauren Adams and Slieve Bloom Bella Rose finishing on their second round performance of clear in 41 seconds.

The 148cm six/seven-year-old decider attracted the largest following with 94 combinations going to post. Claiming victory when fastest of four double clears in 36.60 was Senan Reape and the J.S. Bloodstock-owned six-year old JSB Tik Tok. Leinster’s Elizabeth Mc Mahon was a second aboard Lurgan Sallyanne (6yo) in 37.60. Saoirse Hanafin and CQS Russel Foley (6yo) slotted into third when clear in 38.34, ahead of Mary Fitzgerald and Rathduff Good Guy R (7yo) in 38.98.

Eugenie Sheehy and Numero Blue (6yo) slotted into fifth when fastest of the four-faulters in the second round in 35.40, ahead of Zara Sharkey and Fortruane Dexglen Belle (6yo), four faults in 35.93.
