JACK Goaley’s Boleybawn Cayman was ridden by Claremorris show jumper Shane Goggins to win the Gain Equine Nutrition 1.35m Connaught Region Grand Prix at Tubberbride Equestrian Centre in Sligo last Saturday.

Offering a prize fund of €2,500, the class attracted a starting field of 31 combinations. Bred by Ronan Rothwell, the 11-year-old gelding is by the Swedish sire Cassidee out of Boleybawn Riverto (Ard VDL Douglas).

The duo had the advantage of going towards the end of the 13-way decider and stopped the clock at 38.59 to secure the victory. Claire Crawford’s Dutch-bred gelding Jackstar, ridden by Pataire Crawford, finished as runners-up, crossing the finish almost two seconds slower in 40.40.

Good showing

Sven Hadley and his own Sumas Taloubet (Taloubet VDL x Pride of Shaunlara), who was bred by Suma Stud, slotted into third place in 41.13.

Hadley also accounted for fourth aboard his other mount Uidam. Bred by Padraig Howley, this mare is by Luidam out of Miss Mac Car (Cavalier Royale) and produced several wins and placings early in the year in the Showjumpers Club Spring Tour.

The eight-year-old Heritage Enigma (Eldorado van de Zeshoek x Canturo), bred by Anne-Marie O’Gorman, owned by Kevin McCabe and ridden by Aoife McCabe, finished fifth, while Hadley and Axel Verlooy’s eight-year-old Belgian stallion Phenomene Bleu VDM (Diamant De Semilly x Nabab De Reve) took sixth.
