NICOLA FitzGibbon won a very competitive five-year-old division which saw 101 starters take on three rounds over the 1.20m track at the final Dublin Horse Show qualifier for young horses held at The Meadows Equestrian Centre.

Riding One Day Maybe who, bred by Patrick Hogan is by Bentley Van De Heffinck out of the Kannan mare Kannan Queen, she lodged a third round jump-off time of 37.80 seconds to win with her own Langara Ventures-owned mare.

Ann Connors’ home-bred Jump The Gun (I’m Special De Muze x Master Imp), ridden by Nicholas Connors, was runner-up in 38.59, while junior rider Lucy Morton rode her other Joanne’s Fintra Elsa into third in 38.86. Bred by Sheila and Michael Murphy, she is by OBOS Quality x Shannondale Sarco St Ghyvan.

Gemma Phelan guided the Gerard Burke owned and bred mare Glidawn Gigi (I’m Special De Muze x Jack of Diamonds) to fourth place. Close behind them in fifth was Tom Hearne riding his own Harristown Flamenco (Je T’aime Flamenco x Harristown Princess) who was bred by Thomas Power.

Leah Stack collected yet another qualification place for the Ballypatrick Stable when she rode the late Dr Noel Cawley-owned and bred Luisa (Luidam x Flex A Bill) into sixth. Nicholas Butler was the last of the treble clear rounds with his own Crossriver Criostoir (Dallas VDL x Askoll Peter Pan), bred by Walter Butler.

The final five qualifying spots went to Megan McGettigan with Regula Wassmer’s Belmondo (KEC Maximum Joe x Voltaire), bred by Enda Corry; Fergus Reid riding the Clive Cathers-bred Ballachino (Beach Ball x Pacino) for owner Derek Reid; pony rider James Derwin and Jim Derwin’s ESH Nora (Dignified Van’t Zorgvliet x Capitalist) in 10th; Kian Dore with the Peter Kileen-bred Cape Tribulation (Womanizer x Cruising), owned by Edel Dore; and Paddy O’Donnell secured the final place on offer aboard Little Bit Foxrock (Risohorse Locorotondo x Iroko) for owner Julie O’Sullivan Gallagher and breeder Vahe Bogossian.
