AS well as international action, there was top class pony jumping on offer at Mullingar International Horse Show last weekend.

Kian Dore proved best of some superb opponents to secure first place in the Deravarra Equine Clinic 1.20m 148cms Championship on Sunday. Riding the Micheal O’Sullivan-owned and bred eight-year-old Wineport Q Junior (Quidam Junior x Lux Z), he posted a jump-off time of 34.64 in the seven-way decider to secure the win.

Conor Brennan, riding his mother Sinead’s seven-year-old Coolcronan Liberty (Hans x Coral Prince), bred by David Dodd, finished second in 36.75.

Kate Lynch and Lahorna You Two (Warrenstown You 2 x Harlequin Du Carel), bred by Noel Seymour, were third in 37.01. Fourth went to Katie Nallon and Sandra Duffy’s Mister Jones in 38.22, while James Derwin riding Jim Derwin’s Rincoola Babog (Luidam x Cruising) took fifth as the fastest four-faulter.

Kate Lynch and her second mount Kilclogher Klassy Lady (Loughehoe Guy x Matchmakers Lad) completed the top six places.

Equijump 128cm championship

Cliodhna McEvoy and Martin McEvoy’s Tynnan Tuttle Pip won the Equijump 128cms 1m Championship on Monday morning when they produced the only double clear round of the class in a time of 32.09 from a field of 21 starters.

Just four combinations made it through to the jump-off. Alayna Hawkins took second place with her father Shane’s seven-year-old Carraghy Apollo; she was the fastest four-faulter in 33.66.

Jack Dore and Woodside Jerry Lee were third, while Edward Walsh Jnr riding Knock Lady Bird took fourth.

Fifth went to Ben O’Connor aboard Lisboy Black Magic, they collected a single time fault in round one. Sixth went to Alex Maloney and Almar Chubba Chubba, they too had one time fault in round one.

1m Championship

Young rider Kathryn Morton came out on top in the Lilliputt 1m Championship two-phase after she proved best of the 28 starters.

Partnered by her mother Joanne’s six-year-old mare Creevyquinn Bella (Balou Du Rouet) the pair produced a second round time of 26.23 for first place. By Ballintogher Evidence out of a Cavalier Royale mare, she was bred by Stephen and Eilis Reilly.

Amateur rider Laura Clinton and Kevin O’Reilly’s Dutch-bred Furore S were runners-up in 27.22.

Jacqueline Murphy and her own five-year-old DHF Xanadu (Goldfever I x Cardento) were third in 28.36.

Vivki Sherwood riding her own Dutch-bred V. Postbaans Quickalme took fourth place in 30.82, while Angela Devaney and Cobra Khan (Cobra x Coevers Diamond Boy) were just slightly slower in 30.83 for fifth. Anna Sheridan was sixth riding Coldwinters Lad as the only other double clear round.

Ladies’ championship

Junior rider Shauna Curtis and Kerie Curtis’ Knockbrack Diamond Lady (Cavalier Cruise x Glidawn Diamond) won the 1.10m Lake County Ladies Championship when posting a double clear in a time of 22.91.

Second place went to Laura Connors riding her mother Ann’s French-bred gelding Adordable Du Talus in 23.76. Abby Morton and Glenn Martin’s six-year-old Drumiller Balto (Balou du Rouet x Cavalier Royale) finished in third in 23.91.

Young rider Ronya Benson riding Be Good took fourth in 24.89, while fifth place went to Olwyn Alexander and the Dutch-bred Faline. Marble Arch Equine’s home-bred seven-year-old Ball Park (Beach Ball x Clover Hill), ridden by Katie Conlon, took sixth place.
