THE Ballymacad Hunt are holding their first Performance Hunter Show on Sunday, September 28th at Skerry Cross, Dromone, Oldcastle, Co Meath. One of the event organisers, Glenn Farrell Walker, said: “Our hope is the show will become an annual event, which will showcase Irish hunters and sport horses that are for sale coming into the hunting season.”
The course will be over a mixture of obstacles, such as walls, rails, gates and banks, which would be met on a typical day’s hunting, plus a range of rustic fences. There will be three main classes - for four- and five-year-olds (80-95cm); novice hunter (80-95cm) and the open class (1m). Horses will be judged on their movement, jumping ability, performance, temperament, conformation and rideability by two judges - noted bloodstock agent Patricia Hoey (conformation) and showman PJ Casey (ride).
