BILLY Twomey had a fantastic weekend at Montefalco, when he came out on top in the four-star 1.50m Ranking class at Le Lame Horses Sporting Club in Italy on Friday riding Jumping Jack Van De Kalevallei. The pair were best of the 58 starters when they jumped double clear in a jump-off time of 42.24 seconds to take the lion’s share of the generous €57,000 prize fund. Their nearest rival was William Fletcher (GBR) who claimed the runner-up spot with IV Willem (42.61), with Abdullah Mohd Al Marri (UAE) completing the podium with James VD Oude Heihoef (44.03).

Twomey went on to take the runner-up position in Sunday’s concluding four-star 1.55m Grand Prix with Diego Del Caribe, owned by Mike and Helen Enright, to take home a significant portion of the €110,000 on offer. From a start list of 46, nine combinations kept a clean sheet in the first round to make it into the jump-off. Twomey’s time of 42.78 wasn’t quite fast enough to catch Portuguese winner Rodrigo Giesteira on Karonia.L, who stopped the clock in 41.64. Ireland’s Thomas Ryan finished just outside the top 10, riding Jezebeau BC into 11th place after incurring four faults in round one.
