KILKENNY’S Marta Hughes-Bravo made her trip to week four of the Andalucia Sunshine Tour at Vejer de la Frontera in Spain worthwhile, when she rode the 20-year-old Irish Sport Horse gelding, HHS Figero (Guidam x Dreaming Of U by Cavalier Royale), bred by her mother Marion Hughes, to win the two-star 1.45m Grand Prix on Sunday.
Taking on an initial starting field of 72, Hughes-Bravo was among 12 combinations to jump clear in the first round, five of whom managed to remain clear when going against the clock. Hughes-Bravo clocked the fastest double-clear time of 38.16 to secure victory with a lead of more than two seconds, with her trusty steed the same age as she is. Tyrone’s Niamh McEvoy and another Irish Sport Horse, MB Lorenzo R (Tolan R x Vienna by Voltaire), bred by Michael Beattie, also finished on the podium in third place (41.19), with Matthew Sampson (GBR) on Un Secreto Z separating the Irish girls in second (40.35).
