STEVEN Smith recorded one win from his five rides at the re-scheduled Eventing Ireland Northern Region one-day event at Tyrella on Bank Holiday Monday, that coming in the 21-runner EI110, where he claimed the honours on the Irish Sport Horse gelding Lachain Lance (Lancelot - Lachain Cruise Dancer, by Cruising), who was making his seasonal debut.
The Gilford-based rider and the bay seven-year-old posted a penalty score of 24 in the Rosie Gomes-judged dressage phase, as did Michael O’Toole on Obsession AKA Ballybeg Obsession. Both left the show jumping arena without any additional penalties, but Smith was the faster across the country (four time penalties) to claim the win ahead of O’Toole (10.4), who had to settle for second on 34.4.
