ANNE Bradley was beyond thrilled to recently win the 80cm Spring League in Warrington on her 30-year-old horse Meadow Flight, aka Pedro, after jumping six consecutive clear rounds.

The occasion was even more special following an injury to the gelding. Telling their story, she said: “The day was very poignant as exactly a year prior he was given the all clear from a hind suspensory injury which was to retire him at 28 but Ped wasn’t having any of that and we rehabbed him back to health with the help of many wonderful people...and a few leeches! At the great age of 29 we started back slowly and he went from strength to strength.

“Ped lives at Warrington Equestrian Centre and is so very well looked after by Mrs Moloney, Marie and all their amazing staff. I have had Ped almost half my life now, just over 20 years. My plan is to now retire him from jumping...but who knows this amazing horse with the heart of a lion might have other ideas… all I know is that whatever he wants to do I’m on board.

“Older horses can bring so much joy and I’m so grateful to my Ped for all the wonderful years he has given me, all the adventures had, memories and the many friends made all thanks to this very special boy who I have the privilege of sitting up on each day. Cherish your older horses, they are super special. If love alone could keep Ped alive, he would live forever.”
