THE North Mayo Harriers had to reschedule their January meet in Louisburgh due to bad weather, but the sun shone for their final meet of the season. 42 followers were out at Louisburgh last Sunday, riding across a variety of terrain, including woodland near Old Head beach, crossing the Bunowen river, and finishing up on the site of Louisburgh Horse Show’s show jumping arena, overlooking Carrowmore Beach, where the local show committee had set up cross-country fences.

The riders then hacked back to the village in time to watch most of the Ireland v Italy rugby match over refreshments in Joe McNamara’s pub, where they also celebrated the birthday of Matt Gordon. The previous night, the Louisburgh Show Committee’s dinner dance was held in the Westport Country Lodge Hotel, where local TD Michael Ring, Paddy Joe Foy and the Irish Horse World’s contributor Susan Finnerty were the special guests.
