A NEW name appeared among the list of prize-winners at the Dressage Ireland Midland and Western Region show held at the Foy family’s Drumindoo Stud outside Westport last Sunday.

Bethany Light, a Bedfordshire native who moved to Ireland in November 2022, recorded two uncontested wins at Medium level, achieving excellent percentage scores of 73.71 and 73.64 with her Dutch Warmblood gelding, Eastwood.

“I was a dressage rider and trainer by profession when living in the UK, so it has been a bit of a change coming here!” revealed Bethany, who now manages an island in Clew Bay. “I brought three horses with me, Eastwood who’s 15 and by Schumacher, his five-year-old half-brother, who I’ve done little with and a retired mare.

“Eastwood is kept on the mainland, so it takes time and a bit of effort to get to ride him and that’s really what delayed me starting with Dressage Ireland.”
