FOR the second year running at the Ballindenisk international horse trials at Watergrasshill, Co Cork, a member of the Northern Region was presented with the Chris Corballis Memorial Trophy which honours “someone for going the extra mile in memory of someone who always did!”

This year’s recipient was Riverhill Stud’s Jonny Steele who rode two horses at the event, Caroline Keatley’s Zermatt who, with a pole down show jumping, finished seventh of 24 in the CCI2*-L, and John Simpson’s Somerville Springheeled who, with a double clear but cross-country time penalties, was 14th in the same competition.

“Jonny is always prepared to help and is just so dependable,” said event director, Peter Fell. “If he agrees to do something he will definitely turn up to do it and then won’t leave until the job is done.”

Steele was very much honoured to have been chosen as winner of the award but he was prepared to share the glory with his wife Clare when saying: “This is very special and thank you to all at Ballindenisk. We love what we do and enjoy helping others enjoy their sport too.”

The winners of the O’Regan Equine Services turn-out awards in the long format classes were the Ella Boyle-ridden Mountview Storyteller (2*), the Michelle O’Driscoll-ridden Ringwood Figaro (3*) and the Elizabeth Power-ridden Greenfort Gorgeous George (4*).
