MOHILL student Paul Bohan and his younger brother Kian recently presented a cheque for €3,220 to the Monsignor Young Unit at St Patrick’s Hospital in Carrick-on-Shannon.

The money was raised due to a novel scheme of Next Gen Herefords, who organised the distribution of nine Hereford-Friesian cross calves to young farmers. The Bohan brothers took one named Dozer, reared him and sold him recently at the Aurivo Livestock Mart in Mohill.

“The proceeds on the day will go to the charity I chose, the Alzheimer’s Society of Ireland (Leitrim Branch). The reason is that my granny had Alzheimer’s and passed away two years ago, so I wanted to choose this charity to help people with Alzheimer’s and their families,” said Paul, who shows his own Gortfadda Herefords on the agricultural show circuit.

He also helps his father Padraig show his Gortfadda Irish Draughts and is pictured here last year with judge Mary Rothwell at Athlone Show (which takes place tomorrow) where their Gortfadda Ruby Kingdom was a big winner.

Well done, Paul and Kian.
