LORETO Wexford novice teams and Rathangan NS primary teams had their own St Patrick’s Day celebrations at Wexford Equestrian last Friday with the conclusion of the very competitive competition league.

Wexford EC ran a novice only teams league alongside the very popular TRI Equestrian Interschools League with points accumulated for those attending the events at Wexford over the year, hosted by various schools in the country.

The culmination of this league was on St Patrick’s Day morning where nine novice teams went head to head to battle out for the points and half on offer. The closest battle between Loreto Wexford and Presentation Wexford for the top spot saw Loreto come out on top for the second year running.

The winning team, consisting of Leah Murphy, Isobel Walsh, Sarah Cousins and Kate Jordan, gained the maximum points of 15 to clinch victory. The second team from Loreto Wexford placed fourth with Ashley Durack, Aoife Griffith, Amy Griffith and Cora Finn.

Presentation Wexford, with riders Niamh Ryan, Ruby Revile, Ellen Goggin and Cerys Roche placed second on the day.

Overall results for the league saw Loreto Wexford in first with 62 points, Presentation Wexford second with 55.5 points, Gorey Community School placing third on (45.5), St Peter’s College Wexford were fourth (45), St Mary’s New Ross placed fifth (31.5) and Bridgetown College were sixth (31).

Wexford Equestrian also ran a primary schools teams’ league alongside the Tri Equestrian Interschools League.

Thirteen teams with riders from age six to 12 took part and Rathangan NS were triumphant. The winning team was Freya Barry, who was one of the speedy jump-off riders, with Austin Murphy, Gracie Kelly and Joe Ryan. They were delighted to win a lesson with show jumper Paddy O’Donnell.

Rathangan NS won the league on 54 points ahead of Kilmore NS team of Annie Scallan, Lilly Walsh, Maisey Mooney and Poppy Purcell in second on 50.5 points.

Third place in the league went to Kilrane NS on 47 points. Our Lady’s Island were fourth (45.5), Screen NS were fifth (38.5) and Blackwater NS picking up sixth place with 27 points. Sponsors on the day were Celtic Equine who provided rugs to all winners.
