CO Down international dressage rider Abigail Lyle won the consolation Grand Prix class at the three-star international dressage show in Compiègne, France last Sunday.

The British-based Irish rider scored 69.34% with the 11-year-old Rosseau gelding Giraldo for the win. Lyle also placed fifth with the 11-year-old Fabregas gelding Farrell on a score of 67.73%.

Aberdeen-based Irish international rider Fenella Quinn (Creatzo) and Irish national dressage champion Dane Rawlins (Espoire) both recorded an identical 66.19% total for equal eighth place.

Sweden’s Patrik Kittel won the Grand Prix Freestyle To Music at the venue, scoring 79.96% with Forever Young HRH, ahead of teammate Jeanna Hogberg and Astoria (78.75). Britain’s Charlotte Fry finished third with Inclusive on a score of 78.60%.

Fry, who won an Olympic team bronze in Tokyo last summer, won the Grand Prix Special with the exceptional Glamourdale. Based at Van Olst Stables in The Netherlands, she guided the former seven-year-old world champion to a score of 76.63%. She won ahead of the Swedish Ramel sisters, Juliette and Antonia, who finished on 75.27% and 72.04% respectively.

“I felt he was a bit more tired today, maybe a bit less connected, we had some small misunderstandings, but I’m really proud of him! Three years ago we won the Petit Tour here and now the 5*! It’s so promising for the future. It’s a competition that I really enjoy, the site is superbly renovated, the arenas are perfect and there’s always a great atmosphere,” Fry commented afterwards.
