SOUTH Munster region member Jennifer Rea scored a double at CoilÓg with the eight-year-old Irish Sport Horse gelding Fermoyle Charles, winning both the Botanica Advanced Medium category two championship and the Botanica Medium category two championship.

Jennifer Egan and her own Irish Sport Horse Don Juan’s Doll narrowly edged out Elaine Murphy and QT An Tanaiste by 0.25% to win the Advanced Medium category three championship. Jennifer was unopposed when scoring 69.55% with Don Juan’s Doll in the seven-year-old class. Karen Bennett’s nine-year-old KWPN gelding Jinger, ridden by Finn O’Gara of OG Sporthorses, topped the standings in the Medium category three championship. Hannah Fielding and her own 11-year-old Fidertanz mare Florentina DWS claimed top honours in the Botanica Advanced championship.

M&S Simply Dressage resident Sean Burgess guided Anita Kelly’s eight-year-old KWPN mare DHI Kikkis to success in the Elementary category three championship. Tracy Murphy and another KWPN offspring, the eight-year-old Future gelding Kennedy, won the category two championship equivalent.

Team Ireland rider Kate Dwyer placed first in the Botanica Novice category three championship with her mother Maureen’s six-year-old Irish Sport Horse gelding Ri Ra an Tanaiste. Fifth-placed Dörthe ffrench and Lindsay Newitt’s Financial Reward (TB) gelding Ballinglen Dreamer won the overall Traditional Irish Horse Association second place prize. Andrea O’Brien’s six-year-old D’Egalite Oldenburg mare Songbird, ridden by Linnea Larkin, claimed the Novice category two championship division.

The Wicklow-based Marlton team were also in the winner’s enclosure when Emma Barry clinched the Novice category one championship by just 0.25% from Jamie Maugham (Valley View Sammy) with Josephine Delahoyde’s piebald mare Marlton Oreo. 2023 is proving to be a great year for Claire Farrell and the former Willie Mullins-trained 14-year-old Irish Wells thoroughbred Renneti, winners of the Treo Eile award at the recent Dressage Ireland national winter finals. The former racehorse who recorded four wins on the track, accumulating over €233,000 in prize money, proved his versatility by winning the Botanica Preliminary category two championship.

Sarah Logan and Jane Bolton’s 10-year-old Carrick Diamond Lad mare Rock Lemon placed second and they also won the Traditional Irish Horse Association first and third prizes for their Novice and Preliminary championships results. The Mary Ferris-owned Connemara gelding How Ya Sammy and Abbey Ferris proved to be unbeatable in the Preliminary category one championship. Oscar O’Connor (Top Hero 2) won the uncontested Botanica FEI Pony championship with Rachel Carr (Calliaghstown Silver Doolin) winning the uncontested FEI Junior championship.
