THERE was a definite demarcation of judging duties last Sunday at Annaharvey Farm, where Helen Nolan (List 5) assessed those forward from Trailblazers to Novice level at this Midland and Western Region show, while Michael Moore (List 2A) took over for those competing at Elementary and above.

The mother and daughter duo of Louise and Sophia Doheny both found favour with Moore, the former seeing off her sole rival to land the Prix St George with Angel D (68.09%), her 19-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding by Sunny Boy. Sophia topped the scores in the Medium DI67 with the 13-year-old KWPN-registered Gucci du Feuillard (70.45), a bay gelding by Romanov Blue Hors.

Tracy Murphy finished second in that Medium class on her Dutch Warmblood gelding Kennedy (68.94%). However, on 70.71, she had earlier partnered her nine-year-old son of Future to win the seven-strong Elementary DI55, ahead of Killian Gaffney on Kensington D (68.75) and Doheny junior with Saratoga SBS (68.57).

In front of Nolan, Gina Goessling claimed the honours in both Medium classes with her Connemara gelding Ardwholihane Oreo, a nine-year-old bay by Kippure Mo Cuísle out of Kildrumin Daisy (by Granahan Champ). The combination scored 67.59% in the DI21, in which there were nine starters, and 67.83 in the DI24A, in which there were three.

Preliminary

There were nine starters in the second of the Preliminary classes, the DI18, where topping Nolan’s leaderboard was artist and Mullingar Riding Club member, Astrid Martini-Facio with her traditionally-bred ISH gelding Kilrodan Blue Chip (68.33%), a nine-year-old bay by Boherdeal Clover.

There was one starter less in the DI15 in the short arena, where the honours went to Killian Gaffney and his once-raced British thoroughbred Brandy (66.43), a 2016 gelding by Norse Dancer.

A report from Sunday’s South Munster Region show at Greybrook West Equestrian will be carried in next Saturday’s issue of The Irish Field.
