THE penultimate leg of the Jumpinaction.net secondary schools jumping league got underway on a breezy Sunday morning on January 28th, with the novice individual class running first. Holly’s Esme, ridden by Amabel Townshend, cantered over the finish line in a time of 36.51 seconds to take home the winner’s rug on the day. Taking second place was Mia Cass, riding Mr Cosmopolitan, who crossed the line with a time of 37.09. Bobby Branagan and Barna Belle claimed the third place rosette with a time of 38.56. Matilda Sexton, competing for Swords CC, took fourth. Dunshaughlin CC went home with fifth place when Lucie Minnock rode Glenstall Prince over the line in 40.73, and the final place went to Morgan Leahy from Ballinteer Community School.

Teams

The Jumpinaction.net secondary schools team competition had eight teams jumping for the prizes. Four teams made it through to the jump-off after finishing on zero faults. Maynooth students Amelia McCarthy and Kate Teahan both jumped clear, with a combined time of 84.10, securing the winners’ rugs. The remaining jump-off teams each picked up four faults, but it was Ashbourne Community College who were the quickest with a combined time of 71.69 and good enough to take second place. Eureka Secondary School finished third, while St Mac Dara’s CC/St Wolstan’s took fourth. Dunshaughlin CS placed fifth and O’Carolan College finished sixth.

Individuals

In the 90/95cm Championship, it was Goodnight Mr Tom ridden by Emily Rooney who flew over the line in a time of 35.00 to take home the winner’s rug; closest to her, in a time of 40.85, was Ruby Morris with Killmorgan Star taking second place. Institute of Education student Siobhan Doyle finished in third place, followed by Harry Leonard and Charlie in fourth. Ruairi O’Neill riding Dora took the fifth spot.

The Breakaway Campers ‘Primary Schools’ Novice Individuals were held in the indoor this week. There were 12 competitors. The medals were divided between five of the competitors, who had beautiful clear rounds. The medals were divided between Apples, ridden by Johnny Fowler, Charlotte Carroll with Dunloes Peter Pan, Sadie Connolly who rode Farmleigh Boy, Rocky Rockstar ridden by Emily Carroll and Matt Farrell McGovern.

The Breakaway Campers Open individual had 26 starters. Kilcloon NS pupil Chloe Dunne, riding Archie, took home the winner’s rug, while also picking up third place with her pony Molly. Taking second place was Layla Nakagawa riding Camelia Machno. Finishing in fourth place was Alfie Byrne with Sangrug Eleanore Rigby. St Oliver Plunkett’s representative Georgie Wade placed fifth with Charlie and Melanie Carroll-Browne with Trendy took sixth.

The Breakaway Campers Primary team competition saw six teams through to the jump-off out of eight competing teams. This week, it was Chloe Dempsey with Tommy and Sam Dempsey with Blaze from St Mary’s, Garristown, who crossed the finish line with the fastest combined time to take home the winners’ rugs. Second place went to Headfort. The third place rosette went to St Andrew’s NS, St Andrew’s Green Team finished fourth and Kilcloon NS finished fifth with Enfield/Maynooth finishing sixth.
