ON Saturday, the DAFM Studbook Series kicked off the action at The Meadows, with 40 going to post in the five-year-olds. Of the original starters, 17 delivered clears to divide the £2,000 prize fund. In the six-year-old section, 25 battled it out and 16 double clears divided the prize pot of £2,000 (winners on results pages).

In the seven-year-old class, 18 went to post. It has been a good few weeks for Galway rider Sven Hadley, and he demonstrated his strength in the young horse class as he won the seven-year-old division with the Hibernia Horses-owned Toleen St, with a clear in 30.09. This mare is well related, by Cornet Obolensky and out of Oleen. Olivia Roulston and the Vincent Burton-owned Drumrankin Ebony also kept the poles in place, but in a slower time of 32.05 for second. Bred by her owner, the mare is by Concore and out of Drumrankin Ruby. A clear from Linda Moloney with Michael Ormond’s Calise Talent Z in 32.35 saw them take third. This mare is by Casall and out of the Kannan-sired dam, On Verra Vant Merelsnest. This combination also delivered a double clear in the round in Tipperary. Keith Clogher and Latoon Louie came home with nothing to add in 40.30 for eventual fourth. Owned by Jack Kelly and bred by Patrick Kelly, the gelding is by Luidam and out of Latoon French Clover. Shane O’Reilly put in a very fast round in 29.05 with Brian McConville’s Bossa Nova Boy, but with a pole on the ground, he had to be content with fifth place. Bred by Desmond Judge, the gelding is by Air Jordan Z and is out of Lux A Special Lady. Dermott Lennon suffered a similar fate with his home-bred Loughview Tara Lou, but in a slower time of 31.44 for sixth place. This mare is by Kassander Van’t Roosakker and out of Loughview Lou-Lou, who was competed by Conor Drain with much success on the National Circuit.
