SENIOR Irish show jumping team manager Michael Blake has announced his long list for the Longines FEI European Championships which take place in La Coruna, Spain from July 16th to 20th.

In alphabetical order, the horse and rider combinations listed are: Bertram Allen with Pacino Amiro (ISH) and Quonquest Du Rouet; Trevor Breen and Highland President; Daniel Coyle with Legacy and Incredible; Jordan Coyle with Chaccolino; Seamus Hughes Kennedy and ESI Rocky (ISH); Darragh Kenny with Eddy Blue; Denis Lynch with Vistogrand and Brooklyn Heights; Cian O’Connor with Fermoy, Iron Man and Bentley De Sury; Billy Twomey with Jumping Jack Van De Kalevallei; Tom Wachman and Tabasco De Toxandria Z.

On the reserve list is: Jason Foley and Chedington Hazy Toulana; Mikey Pender and HHS Los Angeles (ISH); David Simpson and Pjotr Van De Kruishoeve; Max Wachman with Kilkenny (ISH) and Fancy De Kergane.

O’Connor eighth in the world

Meanwhile, after breaking into the world’s top 10 rankings last month, Co Meath Olympian Cian O’Connor has again risen to eighth place thanks to another host of top international results, including a runner-up finished in the CSIO5* Grand Prix of Rome last month with Iron Man.

Daniel Coyle has risen one place with 13th, just ahead of Conor Swail who is up one place to 15th. Darragh Kenny is also inside the top 20 in 18th place. USA’s Kent Farrington remains as world number one

In eventing, Britain’s Harry Meade is the new world number one for the first time in his career, taking over from the USA’s Boyd Martin who only held the position for one month. Austin O’Connor has risen 11 places after his third at Badminton to sit 12th in the world.
