LAST Sunday at the RDS, four young riders - Taylor Peare (Lissyegan Geoffrey), Max Foley (Hermes de Cavalier), Coen Williams (Conthanja PS) and Marta Hughes Bravo (HHS Figero) - were chosen to compete for the Young Rider Bursary.

Taking the Bursary prize and the leading young rider title of the Dublin Horse Show was the winner of the 1.30m-1.40m championship, Co Clare’s Coen Williams.

These four riders were put through their paces by French team manager Henk Nooren who praised the Irish for the amount of young talent that the country has competing in Europe with the results to prove it as they have dominated the international scene.

Nooren first asked them to jump their horses over a course of fences and then in the second round, riders were asked to swap horses, which he acknowledged was a difficult thing to do.

Coen rode HHS Figero and delivered another clear round. He was asked to jump fence one to two a second time to achieve a flying change which he did. Marta rode Conthanja PS, and she also delivered another clear. He pointed out that she did a very good job as it was quite a bit of horse for her.

Taylor rode Hermes de Cavalier and answered all the questions. She was praised for being able to ride a completely different type of horse in a short period of time.

Max rode Lissyegan Geoffrey and although he had one down, he was praised for his ability to ride a completely different type of horse to his own.
