EVERY now and then a race pops up at a minor meeting or on the undercard at a major one which time analysis identifies as being out of the ordinary. That seems to have been the case with the seven-furlong maiden for two-year-olds on the Friday at Sandown.

It was not so much the overall time which was impressive, though Larchmont Lad’s 90 timefigure is better than par for such a contest, but the way in which it was achieved. Sectionals show that all of the runners came back quicker than might be expected given the conditions.
