CAVAN Horse and Pony Sales staged their second sale of the year on Wednesday when there was an excellent clearance rate of 82%, although the top price of €10,000, which was given for Vincent Meaney’s Meridian Marvel, fell short of last year’s figure of €13,200.

Consigned as Lot 49, Meaney’s Orestus gelding had unusually returned to Ireland having been campaigned in Britain last season by Ruth Holroyd for Joanne Brown. The grey completed two four-year-old classes under British rules and qualified for the Dubarry young event horse finals at Burghley.
