Teuchters Glory may be able to take this trappy opener. Liam Burke’s gelding has plenty of hurdling experience already, with some notable form when third to Spillane’s Tower at Naas in February and most recently last week at Cork when he found only No Time To Wait too good. He finished ahead of one of his main rivals today, Lucky Lyreen, in a bumper at Limerick last season and there is no real reason why he can’t confirm that form over hurdles.

Lucky Lyreen ran well over two and a half miles here on his hurdles debut and he may well progress from that, for all that this drop down in trip is a slight question. Spread Boss Ted finished sixth to Mahon’s Way in a reasonable maiden hurdle at Naas and can be expected to progress from what was his first start in 469 days.

Find A Fortune gets a tentative vote to get off to a winning start over hurdles. Gordon Elliott’s gelding struggled badly in a bumper on his track debut last March, but previously he showed plenty when third to Giovinco in a Dromahane point-to-point. Given plenty of time, he could prove a different proposition now.

Dancing City and Nas Na Riogh both ran reasonably in maiden hurdles on their first starts of the campaign, with slight preference for the latter here. Henry de Bromhead’s gelding should come on plenty from his effort to finish fourth to Zefiro Dodville at Down Royal, with this slight step back in trip possibly an aid to his cause. Dancing City was a useful bumper horse and finished fifth to Stellar Story last month.

In a listed handicap hurdle with plenty of unexposed, young horses, the prospect of siding with a 10-year-old having his 52nd start will make little appeal to some, but Lord Erskine has to be a big player here. Harry Rogers’ gelding is in really good form, as after finishing his flat campaign with a win in the Pollardstown Handicap and a good run off his elevated mark of 87, he transferred that level to hurdles when finding only Espanito Bello and Gaoth Chuil too good in the Brown Lad. That run deserves marking up, as he raced a lot closer to a hot pace as opposed to the two in front of him. He is a previous winner over hurdles at Navan and also won the Irish Cesarewitch when it was run here, so there is lots to like about him making it career win number 11.

Of those aforementioned unexposed horses, Shannon Royale sticks out. Gordon Elliott’s gelding was a 24-length winner at Punchestown and would have had plenty of graded races in the next month, so it may be significant connections come here to run off a mark of 130. Rioga Choice is another to note off a mark of 127. She has always promised to be a smart mare, and showed that when third in a listed mares’ hurdle last February. She could come on from her fifth on seasonal debut in another mares’ listed event.

Read To Return has the best recent form and should be able to go close in what looks a good opportunity. Tony Martin’s gelding won over fences at Killarney in October and his fifth to Hascouer Clement at Cheltenham needs a clear upgrade, given the ride was subject to an inquiry and subsequent ban for his rider. His latest fourth in a handicap hurdle over this distance at Fairyhouse was another decent effort. He is possibly better over further but may be able to take advantage of what looks a weak heat.

Upthereforthinking caught the eye in the manner in which he stayed on in behind St Denis’s Well over two miles here on Troytown Chase day. That was just the fifth run of his life and probably his best, backing up a useful effort in a Galway maiden hurdle.

Lucid Dreams was just half a length away from a Grade 2 success on his most recent start and he can continue his good record over fences here.

John Ryan’s eight-year-old has won twice and finished second and third in four of his five chase starts, and given his proven ability at two miles, he might just have too much toe for his likely main market rival Joyeux Machin.

Paul Nolan’s six-year-old ran well when a half length second to Minella Crooner in a listed contest over two miles and seven furlongs at Wexford, having previously won over this sort of trip at the same track in September. Sa Fureur receives weight from both of the aforementioned and shouldn’t be discounted given how well he did over hurdles last season. He was in the midst of running well in Facile Vega’s beginners’ chase at the course when he came down at the third last.

Eddie Cawley’s team is starting to hit a bit of form which bodes well for Misty Hollow in this competitive handicap chase.

The 10-year-old is making his seasonal debut here, but he won at this course off a 391-day break last season and there was no shame in finding the subsequently useful Queen Jane 16 lengths too good on his next start at Limerick. He has decent form over three miles, so this step up in trip should be fine for him, and a mark of 97 looks workable.

There are plenty of dangers, chief of which may be Wee Charlie and Rolly Bowley Boy. Wee Charlie had plenty of chances over hurdles but in three starts over fences, he has already surpassed his 101 rating over the smaller obstacles. He can improve again, as can Rolly Bowley Boy, who ran with distinct promise when third to Potters Party over three miles at Fairyhouse recently, just his third start over fences.

Springt De La Mare was well touted before making his track debut here last month and he lived up to that billing by getting the better of two similarly well touted prospects in My Trump Card and Apple’s Of Bresil.

The former has won handsomely since, so there is a bit of substance to the form, and Gavin Cromwell’s gelding ought to be better now in a more truly run race.

You could say that for plenty of these in fairness, notably Jalon D’oudairies, who picked up smartly at Fairyhouse in a race his trainer loves to win.

He is a big danger while the most intriguing runner is probably Redemption Day. He missed all of last season but he was a really smart bumper horse before that, winning smoothly on debut at Leopardstown and just failing to cause an upset against Facile Vega in the Punchestown Champion Bumper when last seen.
