Ardera Ru can follow up her recent Thurles win for trainer Eoin Doyle. The eight-year-old was making just her third start over fences so should be open to further improvement. The daughter of Fame And Glory remains well handicapped relative to her hurdles rating.

Midnight It Is also won his most recent start over fences, when successful at Clonmel last month. The Gavin Cromwell-trained gelding should also have further scope for improvement off his chase mark.

SELECTION: ARDERA RU

Grade 1-placed bumper horse King Of Kingsfield was overturned on his hurdling debut last month but did little wrong in the circumstances.

The first two pulled well clear of the remainder so it would be disappointing if the Gordon Elliott-trained five-year-old doesn’t get his head in front here. Slade Steel didn’t reach the same heights as Elliott’s representative in bumpers but was a fair third at Punchestown in April having won on his racecourse debut. A former point-to-point winner, he has the potential to do better now he is faced with hurdles.

Although he comes with a slight health warning, Hypotenus looks the one to beat. An impressive winner on his stable debut for Gavin Cromwell at Gowran last month, he had also run a huge race when runner-up in Grade 3 class on his first start for previous trainer John McConnell. Provided he isn’t one who just thrives on a change of scenery, he should follow up. Smooth Tom made a very pleasing debut over hurdles when landing a well contested maiden at Listowel. With a rating of 90 on the flat, Andrew Slattery’s gelding should make his presence felt.

Spread Boss Ted can make a winning start to his hurdling career for Willie Mullins and Paul Townend. Although only successful in one of his three starts in bumpers, those races are full of subsequent winners which gives his form some substance.

While he faces no easy task here, the six-year-old appears to have more scope for improvement than his main rivals.

Clodders Dream acquired plenty of jumping experience last season, showing up well on all five starts over flights. Gordon Elliott’s gelding sets a fair standard but could be vulnerable to a more unexposed type.

Espanito Bello should be capable of making his presence felt on a track where he has a decent record. Winner of the Leinster National over fences here last season, the Barry Connell-trained gelding also won both his bumper and maiden hurdle at this venue. Having won the latter race off the back of a 427-day absence, the fact he hasn’t been seen since April is not a concern.

Having run better than ever on the flat this year, the veteran Lord Erskine has to be a contender back over hurdles. Trainer Harry Rogers has done an incredible job to keep the 10-year-old in such excellent form.

Dinoblue, who looked a mare to follow when winning her final two starts last season, can complete the hat-trick.

The J.P. McManus-owned six-year-old was sent off a well-backed favourite for the Grand Annual at Cheltenham but met one too good on the day.

However, she made up for that disappointment with impressive weight carrying performances at Fairyhouse and Punchestown subsequently.

Fil Dor ended last season back over hurdles having had a mixed start to his chasing career. However, with time on his side, the Gordon Elliott-trained five-year-old has to be worth another chance over fences.

Corbetts Cross, a horse with the potential to develop into a leading novice chaser this season, can make a winning debut. A Grade 2 winner over hurdles at this track last term, he held every chance when running out at the last flight in the Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival on his next start.

Grangeclare West made a winning debut over hurdles at Navan last November before disappointing somewhat in Grade 1 company on his next two starts.

Connections subsequently found a reason for those below par runs and he ended the season with an impressive success at Punchestown.

With her multiple Grade 1-winning half-brother Allaho having made a winning return to action on Thursday, all eyes will no doubt be on Shaving here.

The Willie Mullins-trained daughter of Spanish Moon has plenty to live up to as her half-sister also achieved blacktype for the Irish champion trainer. It would be disappointing if she doesn’t make a winning start to what could be an exciting career.

East Side, fourth on her racecourse debut at Punchestown last month, showed enough to suggest she could win a bumper but she may well bump into an above average rival here.
