Moyglare Stud Stakes (Group 1)

Brilliant: Daughter of Gleneagles is half-sister to Alcohol Free but yet to show that sort of class in five starts. Off the mark at third time of asking but needs a big step up from recent placed efforts at listed and Group 3 level.

Fallen Angel: Too Darn Hot daughter of Agnes Stewart, May Hill winner, Fillies’ Mile placed. She has looked smart in three runs, with debut win followed by listed second and then big step up to run out authoritative winner in the Group 3 Sweet Solera at Newmarket. Looks a strong stayer already at this trip and may be able to get involved.

Ornellaia: Third first time up but progressed since with notably comfortable victory over Classical Song (boosted form since) in Goodwood maiden and then finding only one too good in Group 2 Prix du Calvados at Deauville. Both those two recent efforts came over today’s trip but also on soft ground, which she seems unlikely to get now, so that is a question to answer.

Pearls And Rubies: Bright start with debut win at Navan before sent off 7/4 favourite for the Chesham - got going too late to reel back in Snellen. Second to Kairyu in Group 3 Anglesey but seemed to be found wanting on her toughest test, when just over five lengths off Vespertilio here in the Debutante. A little bit to prove now.

Porta Fortuna: Caravaggio filly completed a hat-trick of wins when too good for Matrika in the Albany, showing fine attitude late on. Four lengths off Bucanero Fuerte in the Group 1 Phoenix, but she ran well in the circumstances, with the winner’s planned pacemaker deserting her after the halfway. She steps up to seven furlongs now and if that can aid her, she looks a threat. Dam was best at middle distances.

Red Viburnum: Frankel filly out of dual one-mile listed race winner was a big eyecatcher when finding the more experienced pair A Lilac Rolla and Opera Singer marginally too good on her debut - she raced greenly, had to make her ground on her own and only just failed. The runner-up has since boosted that form significantly. She looks a very nice prospect but this might be too much on just her second ever start.

She’s Quality: Three solid efforts in defeat to begin with, including fourth in Group 3 Anglesey on second start, before getting off the mark in impressive fashion in valuable fillies’ maiden at Newbury. Step up to seven furlongs not an absolute guarantee to suit and has a bit to find in this grade.

Vespertilio: Hold up filly has improved on each start, having finished third at Fairyhouse first time up, to finishing second to Ylang Ylang in Group 3 Silver Flash, and then most impressive with stylish win here in the Debutante. That latest effort was a significant jump from her defeat to Ylang Ylang, so connections will be hopeful she can at least close the gap on the favourite.

Ylang Ylang: Frankel filly cost 1.5 million guineas and so far so good on two starts, with comfortable debut win over this course and distance and professional effort from the front in Silver Flash. That form boosted significantly by runner-up mentioned above, but she is now a legitimate threat. However, every chance she has also stepped forward and in all likelihood, is the one to beat.

Conclusion

Ylang Ylang is the one to beat but any price above 5/1 looks too big to ignore for Vespertilio. She has a length and a half to find with the favourite, but looked a much better filly here in the Debutante and may well jump forward again.
