Running up to the second last all was going well with Bright New Dawn. He’d just increased the gallop and had his sole challenger Mullaghanoe River being niggled along to stay in touch. Unfortunately the increased pace forced Mullaghanoe River into a mistake which unshipped his rider, leaving just two other rivals standing, one of whom was far behind.

Bright New Dawn kept on going until the last but on the run-in he looked to idle badly and had to be given four cracks of the whip to keep going.
