THE new pony racing season will begin on Easter Sunday, April 9th, with a fixture in Borris, Co Carlow.

It will be the first horse and pony meeting since Jack de Bromhead’s fatal accident at Glenbeigh last September.

Under revised rules this year, riders must be at least 14 years of age and with two years’ race-riding experience. Riders cannot exceed five rides on a raceday unless assessed by the attending doctor. There are no plans to stage beach fixtures this year.
