LINGFIELD Racecourse is seeking Irish entries for the £1 million Winter Million Festival at the Surrey track next month. The raceourse is an 18-minute drive from Gatwick Airport and it has a luxury 116-room hotel on-site.
First staged last year, the Winter Million Festival offers three days of racing with over £1 million in prize money. Running from Friday, January 20th to Sunday, January 22nd, the weekend fixture has brought high level jump racing back to Lingfield Park.
Trainer Harry Fry enjoyed notable successes at the inaugural Winter Million in 2022, striking with Metier in Friday’s feature Sovereign Handicap Hurdle, run over two miles, a race worth £110,000 (€127,000) in 2023.
Stable companion Love Envoi won the Mares’ Novice Hurdle (2m, £30,000/€34,725) before going on to score at the Cheltenham Festival.
Sunday’s jumps action is headlined by the Fleur De Lys Chase, run over two miles and six furlongs and worth £165,000 (€191,000). This is the race Dan Skelton has picked out for Protektorat.
Also on that card is a £100,000 (€115,750) hurdle race over just short of two and a half miles, won in 2022 by Brewinupastorm.
A day of all-weather flat racing on the Saturday will offer £240,000 (€277,000) across an eight-race card, with the 10-furlong Winter Oaks, a 0-105 handicap for fillies worth £100,000 (€115,750) the highlight. The full day’s racing is part of the All-Weather Championships as well as Arena Racing’s £1 million All-Weather Bonus Scheme, both of which culminate with All-Weather Championships Finals Day at Newcastle on April 7th.
Lingfield Park and ARC are pleased to offer a £500 travel allowance for all international runners, along with two complimentary rooms in the Lingfield Park Marriott, located on site.
