BOOGIE Woogie gained a valuable blacktype win when claiming the Listed Thomas’s Of Foxrock Memorial Trigo Stakes at Leopardstown last Sunday.

The well-bred daughter of Dubawi and Seventh Heaven, winner of the Irish and Yorkshire Oaks, had been knocking on the door in stakes company this season and gained a deserved breakthrough.

Seamie Heffernan made a decisive move on the Ballydoyle filly as he kicked for home entering the straight and poached a three-length lead over a furlong out.

The 9/2 shot kept on well in the closing stages to secure her victory in the ten furlong contest by three quarters of a length from Sunchart.

Stable representative Chris Armstrong said: “She’s a filly who has promised a lot all year but things just haven’t gone right for her at times. She’s ran some good races in group races and it’s great to get the listed win now.

“Seamie said she didn’t handle the ground but her class got her through. There has been no decision made yet about whether she’ll stay in training next year or not. She has a very good pedigree and it’s great to get the blacktype.”

Ballydoyle brace

It was the second leg of a quick double on the card with Farnborough having landed the preceding Manguard Handicap for her trainer Aidan O’Brien.

Killian Hennessy did the steering on the 4/1 favourite as he led turning for home and shot clear over a furlong out to post an impressive five-length win over San Aer.

“Killian gave him a lovely ride, the plan was to just let him build into it,” said Armstrong.

“He’s off to the sales now at Newmarket and he’ll be a grand, straightforward, genuine horse for someone to pick up.”

The Galileo gelding was sold for 75,000gns at Tattersalls the following day, joining Darby Racing in Australia.

Bolger’s smart Legend comes good in October Handicap

EASTERN Legend was withdrawn from his sales engagement in Newmarket after his success in the concluding Dublin To Bahrain October Handicap.

Jim Bolger’s gelding led before the straight in the mile-and-a-half contest and went clear over a furlong out under Rory Cleary to secure a two-and-a-quarter length win at odds of 7/1.

The winning trainer commented:- “Jumping will be his game. That was his best performance. He goes on any ground and he has Triumph Hurdle written all over him!”

Job done with Yuzu

A crucial win was gained with the Jessica Harrington-trained Yuzu in the opening GAIN The Advantage Series Handicap.

The 9/2 favourite kept up a sensational start for young Keithen Kennedy, giving him his third winner and reducing his claim to 7lb.

She came with a strong run to lead inside the final furlong and beat Nituna by half a length.

Assistant Kate Harrington said: “That was great and it’s job done. She’s a filly who a friend of mine Cormac [O’Flynn] bought in an online sale. She’s got her bracket now and she’s by a Japanese sire [Daiwa Major]; he’s going to go off breeding with her now. We might find one more race before the end of the season.

“Keithen is a very good young lad. She’s a difficult enough ride and he rides her the whole time at home so it’s great for him to get a win on her.”

Mutasarref surprises his connections in Knockaire

GER Lyons admitted to being surprised by the victory of Mutasarref in the Bahrain Turf Club Knockaire Stakes as the Dark Angel gelding recorded a second career listed success.

Colin Keane took over on the 8/1 shot after stablemate Power Under Me was ruled out of the mile contest. He sat behind a steady gallop before quickening up to lead inside the final furlong, and holding the late charge of Honey Girl by a neck.

“I genuinely thought I was only running him because Eleanora [Kennedy] was over for a do at the weekend,” said Lyons.

“He’s been on the wane all year. Colin said he’s just a class horse and the ease in the ground helps him as he’s had injuries and it helps his old bones.

“He’s been a very lucky horse for us since we got him. I thought we were on the road to dropping him down the handicap but that’s undone all that.”

Patience pays off

The Sheila Lavery-trained Global Energy knuckled down gamely in the closing stages to repel the challenge of Nostringsattached in the 10-furlong handicap.

Gary Carroll produced the 10/1 shot to lead narrowly going to the furlong pole and he had to pull out all the stops late on to secure a half-length win.

“I’m absolutely delighted. He’s had hiccups and it’s taken a long time to get him right,” said Lavery.

“At Tipperary he ran a horror of a race but he pulled a front shoe and stood on the nail. It took a few weeks to get him sound again.

“He kind of handicapped himself because things had been going wrong. Hopefully we’re on an upward curve now.”

Davison filly strikes

Jack Davison is looking forward to the future with Givemehoperosa after she opened her account in the concluding Gables Foxrock Cup Maiden.

The 6/1 shot was delivered to lead inside the final furlong by Ronan Whelan as she edged a tight finish by half a length from Military Alliance.

“She’s a fine filly, she had a setback on her second run in Gowran and we had to be patient,” said Davison.

“I was worried that we might run out of time, as she’s a turf filly really, but thankfully she backed up well after finishing third at Naas last Sunday. I think she’s a filly who will progress again for a winter under her belt, she’s still a big frame.”
