ENTRIES close on Tuesday next, July 11th, for the Randox Antrim Show at Shanes Castle Estate which is scheduled to take place on Saturday, July 22nd.

The programme for the equestrian section of the show features a racehorse to riding horse performance class over a course of 70cms fences and racehorse to riding horse qualifiers for the Tattersalls Ireland and Treo Eile showing pathway series.

There are classes for both open and novice horses from which the first two in both will go forward for a championship. The champion and reserve in this section are then eligible to progress to the supreme ridden horse championship of the show.

On Wednesday of this week, Treo Eile ran a Randox-sponsored thoroughbred showing clinic at The Meadows with Kevin McGuinness, Julie Donaghy Simpson and Judy Maxwell of Baileys Horse Feeds providing attendees at all levels with advice on how to have their mounts prepared for the busy showing season.

Downpatrick feel the roar

HOPEFULLY people will have time to watch the racing next Thursday, July 13th at Downpatrick where they are once again staging Probably The Best Family Fun Raceday Anywhere!

‘There will be something for everyone!’ is the cry and that is especially so if you like dinosaurs as T-Rex, the Roaring, Stomping variety, will be back to roar and stomp – hopefully at some remove from the falcons, dogs, alpacas and those animals in the Petting Farm.

Other activities will include Zorbing, Talent Competitions, the Horse Education Station, Face Painting, Funfair Rides, the popular Children’s Disco and the equally as popular Children’s Races on the Racecourse.

And don’t forget, when pre-booked online and accompanied by an adult paying the standard general admission, there will be the famed FREE Cool Kidz Admission which will entitle two children to a FREE Goodie Bag, FREE Ice Cream, FREE Soft Drink, FREE Crisps and FREE Face Painting. And, as if all that isn’t enough, there will be LIVE music before and after racing.
