CONNECTIONS of talented three-year-old California Dreamer are hoping a return to the Curragh can see her bounce back from a Royal Ascot blip and rediscover her best form in tomorrow’s Group 2 Romanised Minstrel Stakes (3.40).

It was a superb effort from the Adrian Murray-trained filly to finish second behind the world-class Lake Victoria in the Tattersalls Irish 1000 Guineas two starts ago, and, even with the winner sidelined since, that classic form has been well advertised by Cercene (third) winning the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot. Eighth-placed January was also third in the Coronation before a cracking second in last week’s Falmouth Stakes.

Amo Racing’s 110-rated performer receives weight from all rivals at the Curragh as she attempts to leave behind a disappointing Jersey Stakes showing when sent off 13/2 last month.

“California Dreamer goes into the race in great form,” said Ryan McElligott of the Amo team.

“She has run some cracking races at the Curragh in the past, including finishing second in the Irish Guineas. Any number of her runs at the Curragh would give her a great chance here.

“We didn’t see the best of her at Royal Ascot last time out, but we are not sure that she is a filly that travels that well, but back at the Curragh we are hoping to see the real California Dreamer. If we do, she’s got a great chance.”

Diego Velazquez, who missed his intended Royal Ascot prep before finishing down the field in the Queen Anne, is the top-rated runner in the line-up on 118, while there is considerable depth in the field when factoring in group-race regulars like Vespertilio, Chicago Critic, Lord Massusus, Mutasarref, Room Service, Easy and Big Gossey (also declared for today).
