Newmarket trainer George Scott has been busy buying yearlings at Tattersalls Ireland and Goffs in recent weeks, and he gave a further indication that he is a trainer to follow when winning his first Group 1 race on Saturday at ParisLongchamp.
Scott supplemented Caballo De Mar for Saturday's Prix du Cadran and the progressive four-year-old ran out a comfortable winner over the veteran stayer Coltrane. Aidan O'Brien's Queenstown finished third.

A recent winner of the German St Leger, Caballo De Mar was bought by Scott and agent Billy Jackson-Stops at the Tattersalls Ireland September Yearling Sale for just €33,000. He is a son of Irish National Stud stallion Phoenix Of Spain.
"This is a very special day for me and my team," Scott said. "This is our first Group 1 win! I’ve been training for 10 years. We’ve had plenty of stakes winners but no Group 1 winners until now.
"Caballo De Mar is such a special horse, with a huge heart and a golden temperament. He is so relaxed in a race!
"Everything went as planned: he likes to be ridden in the leading group. Tom Marquand rode him brilliantly. We saw in Germany that he handled soft ground well. The year might not be over for him. We’ll see how he recovers. There’s the Long Distance Cup, the Red Sea Turf Handicap in Saudi Arabia ... when we saw how many were left in the race, and knowing the horse was in great form, Sheikh Nasser gave me the green light to supplement him."
