The death was announced today of popular British trainer Bill Turner, after he suffered a serious accident at home on Monday.
Jockeys and those in attendance at the Thursday meetings stood in a minute's silence.
Turner was 78 and a former jockey and as a trainer synonymous with the Brocklesby Stakes at Doncaster, having won the traditional first race of the flat turf season six times, suffered a fractured skull in the accident.
Based in Sigwells in Somerset, Turner’s most recent winner of the Brocklesby was Mick’s Yer Man in 2013.
In an interview on Sky Sports Racing with Matt Chapman, his daughter Kathy paid tribute.
"The horse was to run, in Dad's name, what ever happened, he would have wanted that, Dad would have wanted that. The messages and the support for everyone has been absolutely outstanding. The lover that man had,he wasn't just my dad, he was everyone's dad. The people that he helped all through his years, they all looked at him as a dad."
