NAAS Racecourse staged nine barrier trials on Monday. Organised by Irish Thoroughbred Marketing with the support of the Irish EBF, the trials attracted a total of 53 two-year-olds and 21 three-year-olds.
Joseph O’Brien supplied 28 runners on the day, including three ‘winners’. One of those winners, Bellesque, ‘won’ her trial in a time two seconds faster than the other two trials for two-year-olds run over seven furlongs. Stable companion Elusive Echo posted the fastest time of the three trials for three-year-olds though O’Brien’s Blooming Rose (€850,000 Blue Point half-sister to Bay City Roller) ‘won’ her three-year-old trial comfortably too.
Another Blue Point filly to note is the Robson de Aguiar-trained two-year-old Tosca No Candis, who cost just £40,000 as a yearling but looked well above average in her trial.
Recordings of the races can be found on ITM’s YouTube channel and website.
There are plans to stage more barrier trials at Leopardstown on Wednesday, August 26th with heats also over six and seven furlongs.
