THERE was an exciting finish to the Group 2 142nd Derby Italiano at the Cappanelle on Monday last when the Marco Botti-trained Molveno and Marco Ghiani got up in the final strides to head the Phoenix Of Spain outsider Crazy Spirit and take the classic by a head.

It gave the Newmarket-based trainer, from the famous Italian racing family, a first win in the classic and it led home a family 1-2-3-4 in Rome.
