The Derby Stakes, more widely known as the Epsom Derby, will be held on Saturday the 7th of June 2025 at the Epsom Downs in Surrey. Sponsored by Betfred, the event is a part of the Betfred Derby Festival, which will begin on Friday. The favourite to win the renowned Group 1 flat horse race is Delacroix, trained by Aidan O'Brien. Below are the odds from the bookmakers on Betfree.ie with Delacroix being the current favourite.

Current Form

Currently, the betting odds for Delacroix to win the Epsom Derby are around 9/4 with bet365, Sky Bet, Paddy Power, Betfair, BetMGM, BoyleSports, Star Sports and AK Bet. With William Hill, 888sport, and Betfred, they are 5/2, which means that you would get a bigger payout if Delacroix should win on Saturday.

Recently, Delacroix has been performing incredibly. Ridden by W M Lordan, Delacroix came in first place at Leopardstown in the Cashel Palace Hotel Derby Trial Stake on the 11th of May out of five horses. Before that Delaxcroix also won the race in Leopardstown on the 30th March out of seven runners with jockey R L Moore. The Emirates Autumn Stakes last year in October saw Delacroix unsurprisingly win again, so we can see why the horse is the favourite. Delacroix is trained by Aidan O'Brien, who is widely regarded as the best trainer in our lifetime and has had huge successes from as early as 1996 with the well-known racehorse Desert King. Delacroix's fantastic form and consistency, coupled with O'Brien's long list of victories paints the horse as the bookie favourite.

Recent Form Of Other Favourites

Delacroix may be the favourite, however winning the competition will be anything but easy. Ruling Court, with resounding odds of 4/1 across the books, is a 3-year-old colt trained by Charlie Appleby and owned by Godolphin. Ruling Court won the 2000 Guinness at the beginning of May which put the horse under the spotlight, along with Tornado Alert who came fourth and will also be competing in the Epsom Derby. If Ruling Court can manage to win the derby as well as the St Leger in September, this will be a Triple Crown in British horse racing.

Pride Of Arras must also be considered, with bookies like bet365, Sky Bet, and Paddy Power also stating odds of 4/1. Despite not racing since last August at Sandown, Pride Of Arras brazenly returned to snatch the first prize at the Al Basti Equiworld Dubai Dante Stakes in York, placing first out of eleven runners. Even though the horse trained by Ralph Beckett has been silent for the last season, it's entirely possible that Pride Of Arras can surprise us all.

It's also worth mentioning The Lion In Winter, who was doing great last year and placed first at the Juddmonte Chaldean Irish EBF Maiden and the Tattersalls Acomb Stakes. Unfortunately, after a year out of the game, The Lion In Winter placed sixth out of eleven runners at the Al Basti Equiworld Dubai Dante Stakes despite being trained by O'Brien.

Other horses running in the Epsom Derby include Demysus (odds of 6/1), Midak (odds of 12/1), Lambourn (odds of 12/1), and Nightwalker (20/1). There are more than 25 runners that could potentially be racing, as the list is still not confirmed, so keeping your eyes peeled for any updates in this last week is essential. Delacroix is certainly the favourite, but horse racing is known for being volatile and makes the races prone to uncertainty.
