RACING at Clonmel on Thursday has been cancelled due to waterlogging.

The track was found to be unfit for racing on Tuesday, prompting officials to schedule an inspection for 3pm on Wednesday. However, a decision was made before 1pm to call off the meeting.

Paul Moloney, IHRB clerk of the course, said: “Following 3.5mm of rain overnight, the track here at Clonmel remains unfit for racing and the fixture scheduled for tomorrow has been cancelled.

“Unfortunately we have had 52.5mm of rain since entries and Met Éireann have forecast a further 4-5mm of rain between now and racing.

“The team in Clonmel will liaise with Horse Racing Ireland and other stakeholders to reschedule the meeting in due course.”

The Grade 3 Surehaul Mercedes-Benz Novice Hurdle, which was due to be held at Clonmel, will now take place at Gowran Park this Saturday. The race distance has been shortened from three miles to two miles and seven furlongs.

This race reverts to entries at weights stage with fresh declarations to run to be made by 10am on Thursday. Gowran Park now becomes an eight-race card on Saturday with the first race due off at 12.45pm.

Wetherby's jumps fixture on Wednesday was cancelled following an 8am inspection due to waterlogging. There is racing at Hereford (jumps), Southwell and Kempton on Wednesday, and Dundalk Stadium stages an eight-race card starting at 1.38pm.
