JIM Bolger has placed his world-famous Glebe House training facility and home in Co Kilkenny on the market. It has a guide price of €4 million.
The 150-acre property has been home to Jim and Jackie Bolger since 1982. From here Bolger has trained approximately 2,900 winners including 57 at Group 1 level and 13 classics.
Among the best-known horses to have been trained here are New Approach, St Jovite, Teofilo, Dawn Approach and Poetic Flare. He also trained two Irish Champion Hurdle winners from Coolcullen.
Last autumn, Bolger sold his 84-acre Redmondstown Stud in Oylegate, Co Wexford for just under €1 million. At the time he said he was in the process of consolidating his bloodstock numbers with a view to moving to Rathvilly, Co Carlow where he also owns a farm.
“I’m cutting back on the training as well,” he told reporters at Goffs. “I’m just letting it happen and it’s going nicely. We’ve always sold a few, and I will until I get the numbers down. Then I’ll just train what’s coming along.”
The sale of Glebe House marks the end of an extraordinary era in Irish racing. “This is a landmark equestrian holding, a property that has shaped the course of racing history,” said Paddy Jordan of Jordan Auctioneers. “Its facilities, legacy, and location make it one of the most prestigious and complete training establishments to ever come to the market.”
Coolcullen includes 158 stables across multiple yards, five horse walkers, treadmill and therapy rooms. There are three outstanding gallops – grass, sand and woodchip, plus extensive barns, storage, veterinary and laboratory facilities.
Staff accommodation includes a dedicated recreational building and canteen.
At the heart of the estate lies Glebe House, a gracious three-storey period home extending to approx 700 square metres, featuring multiple reception rooms, six bedrooms, fine original details and wonderful views over the grounds and surrounding countryside. It also boasts a sweeping gravel driveway and mature landscaping.
The lands are all in grass, with mature boundaries and excellent road frontage. The property enjoys a tranquil rural setting at Coolcullen, close to the Carlow–Kilkenny border.
Viewing can be arranged through Paddy Jordan or Clive Kavanagh on 045 433550.
