AS if having people talking up Palace Pier as Europe’s best miler wasn’t enough, 24 hours earlier there was chatter about another Gosden-Dettori representative, Mishriff, being potentially the continent’s top middle-distance three-year-old colt after his authoritative victory in the Group 2 €280,000 Prix Guillaume d’Ornano Haras du Logis Saint-Germain.

Much has been made of Dettori giving up the chance to ride at York’s Ebor meeting to go to France, but the two victories scooped over €500,000 in prize money (he would need to have won the Juddmonte International, Yorkshire Oaks and Nunthorpe to have collected more) and he is extending his Deauville sojourn in the hope that he can add the €120,000 winner’s cheque on offer in tomorow’s Prix Morny.
