IRISH-bred Swansea Mile upset the A.P. Smithwick Memorial at Saratoga on Thursday, outgunning favorite Modem, making his first start since leaving Jessica Harrington’s stable, over the final quarter-mile and scoring by two lengths with Diplomat 14 3/4 lengths back in third.
Owned by George Mahoney’s Rosbrian Farm, Swansea Mile won for the first time since April 2016 and gave world-travelling jockey Michael Mitchell a sweep of the season’s first two jump races.
