FOR the second time in three weeks, the British-bred Prize Exhibit (by Showcasing) swung wide and went last to first to claim a Californian graded stakes race over the turf in the $200,000 Grade 2 San Clemente Handicap at Del Mar. Trailing and carrying the joint top-weight of 122lb, Prize Exhibit went three wide in the turn for home, sprinting past rivals late, getting the best of 8/5 favourite Sunset Glow by a length and a half.

“I had no special instructions before the race,” jockey Santiago Gonzalez said of his first stakes win at Del Mar and his third of four wins on the 10-race Sunday card. “I knew I had horse under me. I waited until the quarter pole and then I let her run.”
