BALLYGLUINAN Races has for many years raised considerable and much needed funds for the Galway Hospice and the midlands region meeting of last Saturday continued that tradition with another successful event.

Fethard, Co. Tipperary rider Ben Coen took the leading rider award on the day as he teamed up with the Ballyconneel-based McNamara stable to land a double. Coen’s first winner came in the 15hh race where he partnered Treasure Beach for Priscilla and Godfrey to follow-up on their recent Louisburgh win. Coen sat in fifth position early before the final quarter of the race came down to a duel between them and Farmer Boyce. However, Treasure Beach always looked to be in command as he won by a length and a half.
