HARRY DE BROMHEAD: Get me to the race on time

Banswara was fancied by her trainer Harry de Bromhead to win the feature at Thurles but he was called to jury service the morning of the race

Harry de Bromhead was honoured by Tramore Racecourse with an Outstanding Achievement Award in 2019 but before receiving his award he wanted to surprise former jockey, Paddy Kiely who rode Banswara trained by Harry, and won the Waterford Crystal Chase at Tramore in 1978. Unfortunately Paddy Kiely could not be present but John Kiely and Matt Kiely were presented with two of the glasses from the original set won for the race \ Noel Browne

I FOUND Banswara at Goffs in November 1975 out of a horses-in-training sale when she was a three-year-old.

I had a friend in one of the big training yards in France and he used to tip me off to the likely raceable French horses. Wildensteins had about eight horses in the sale; we went through them and he said there was only one possibility.
