IT’S not unusual for many of our apprentice jockeys to leave Ireland for Britain, America or Australia but Megan Telford-Kelly is staying at home and doing all she can to make a breakthrough.

The 10lb-claimer from Moone in Co Kildare is based with trainer Willie McCreery and she rode her first winner in May from just a handful of rides.

“Wille has been very good to me and I love working there,” Megan told us. “I’d love to go abroad at some stage, but things are going well here and I have horses at home myself too. I can do light weights and I’d love to get more outside rides, so if anyone wants to give me a chance they can call Willie or me.”

Daughter of former point-to-point handler Michael Kelly, Megan is a very capable horsewoman with tons of experience from the sport horse scene. Her achievements include representing Ireland at the 2019 European Young Rider Championships in The Netherlands.
