THE Association of Irish Racehorse Owners and Irish Racehorse Trainers Association staged their annual golf classic in Mount Juliet last Wednesday week in aid of Treo Eile, the charity which retrains and rehomes retired racechorses.

A total of 22 teams took part and the prizes were supplied by Alan Maloney from Mount Falcon Estate, artist Jason Ó Ceannobháin, Dubarry of Ireland and CW Clothing.

Peter Morgan from Elm Park Golf Club sponsored the longest drive and nearest the pin in both the women’s and men’s categories.

Fine weather on the day contributed to some epic scores, none better than the 107 points scored by the winning team from the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board. Well done to team members Raymond Groarke, Pat Kelly, Tony Kinsella and Andrew Ring.

In second spot, representing the Irish Stablestaff Association, were Pat Keating, Eoin Lane, Patrick O’Brien and John Carty.

Willie Mullins provided the third-placed team of David Casey, Paul Townend, Fran Berry and Brian Hayes. And in fourth came Gavin Cromwell’s team which consisted of the trainer and Damien Dillon, Shane O’Brien and Patrick Sheanon.

Other prize winners on the day included jockey Kieran Buckley, breeder Fiona McEnery, Orla Donworth of Goffs and James Mockridge from Coolmore.
