IT wasn’t just the champion jockeys who were getting presentations at the Curragh last Sunday.
The racecourse management also took the opportunity to hand over a cheque to Cancer Trials Ireland, the proceeds of this year’s Pat Smullen Race Day.
Led by Frances Crowley, wife of the late Pat Smullen, this year’s event raised close to €214,000, bringing the total raised through the charity race and Curragh-to-Curragh charity cycle (brainchild of Gavin Lynch in honour of his late mum, Olive) to more than €1.4 million since their inception.
Also this year the Curragh hosted The Corinthian Challenge on the Friday of Irish Derby weekend, which raised considerable funds for Irish Injured Jockeys.
A further €10,500 was raised on behalf of Newbridge Parishes following on from the Newbridge community raceday in May.
