Perhaps the greatest all round horseman that Ireland has produced, an international and Olympic event rider, show jumper, point-to-point jockey, keen hunt follower, bloodstock agent, and course designer. And you only have to visit Punchestown to see his remarkable work in designing a horse trials course.

His achievements were numerous, starting off on on his home farm in Loughsullis, Co Kilkenny where he farmed over 500 cattle. In 1956, he became chairman of the Young Farmers Association and in 1970 he was awarded Farmer of the Year. He went on to work for Omar Van Landeghem in north county Dublin where they were exporting up to 50,000 cattle to Europe ever year.
