OLDTOWN is one of the most galloping tracks on the Irish point-to-point circuit and has the ability to throw up some useful track performers. We may have seen another one of those in the five-year-old geldings’ maiden, which was won stylishly by Largy Debut (7/4 - 5/2) for Stuart Crawford.

Ben Crawford settled the son of Shirocco at the back of the five-runner field before making an eye-catching move after the third last. He took up the running at the second last, on the bridle, and from there, it was never in doubt. Afterwards, winning handler Crawford kept it simple and said: “He’s a beautiful horse. He’s the best that we have ever had – that’s all you need to know!” That is certainly a statement worth noting as he has previously trained the likes of Malone Road and The Very Man to win their maidens.
